August 12-19

My family doesn't have 1-year-old pictures of us kids, they have 13-month pictures of us.  My birthday is in December, and mom and dad wanted to avoid the rush of holiday pictures, so they got my picture taken in January.  Of course, this placed many of my younger siblings squarely in the holiday zone that my parents were trying to avoid.  Oh well.  Bryan and I decided that this was one tradition that we didn't need to follow, so we planned to take 1-year pictures like normal people.  Unfortunately, Olivia and the portrait studio are doing their best to frustrate this goal at every turn.  We scheduled a session for two Wednesdays ago, but Olivia had a fever.  I canceled and rescheduled for Friday (since her fever broke), but she developed a rash the next morning.  I canceled Friday and was trying to reschedule all week, but the studio was busy.  WHY IS EVERYONE IN TOWN TAKING PICTURES THIS WEEK?

On Tuesday, our nephew, William Ignatius was born!  The hardest part will be calling him William instead of WD.  :) Apparently my dad is making a push for Billy Iggy.  Won't Justine be pleased with that!
Olivia is getting braver with letting go of things.  She stands right next to furniture without holding on quite regularly now.  She's still unwilling to stand by herself in the middle of the room, although every now and again I see her trying to get to a standing position.  Her walking bravery is also changing, although I'm not sure if it's getting better or worse.  She's more willing to walk across a small gap to get from a chair to me, but she sees it as a game and knows that I'll catch her, so she less walks and more flings herself the couple of feet into my arms.

Friday we finally did get our pictures taken.  We did Olivia's one year old pictures and a family picture.  You can see all of them at www.Searsphotos.com.  Login using the Session number 122758 and password RXD3P.  This picture is one of my favorites (although not the one we ordered).

Why aren't you taking pictures of ME?

  1. The babyproofing is the giant dowel poking through all of the drawers so she can't open them?

    1. Yes! WAY easier than attaching all of those obnoxious little drawer locks.

  2. And the strip of tape holding the top one shut so that just in case she can open them, the top one will keep them all closed

    1. Haha, the "strip of tape" is actually just a strip of that no-slip-drawer-grip stuff that I put in the bottoms of my drawers to keep everything inside from flying to the back every time the drawers get closed. It's on the counter because Olivia took it out of the bottom drawer, but actually serves no function in the baby-proofing process. I didn't even notice it was there until you said something.
